The history of lexicography in Iran goes back to pre-Islamic era and this tradition has been one of the most obvious sicientific and literary branches to protect Persian language and literature. The present article is concisely reviewing the history of lexicography in Iran as well as having a critic look at the transitions and changes resulting from the ancientness of this science and other issues such as policy making, impact of the foreign terminology and culture, overflowing of scientific and technical terminology, different grammatical structures, word-coinage system and other issues.
